History of the smiley face symbols

The first ever illustrated/graphical smiley face symbols was made in 1964 in Worcester, MA by a
man named Harvey Ball. He did not basically do this for fun, there was a certain objective which
was for a client who was attempting to ease the transition of two corporations following a
merger. But that's not the beginning!

The earliest recorded use of characters and symbols to signify emotions was in 1857 when men
and women utilized Morse code, specifically, the number 73 to symbolize love and kisses. Later,
in 1881, the American magazine "Puck" began printing character based emotions on a normal

basis. The first commonly employed smiley emoticon was &quot ;-) &quot ; which represented &quot ; tongue in
cheek&quot ;. Currently, tongue in cheek is represented through the character sequence ":-J&quot ;.
The first instance in the use of smiley face emotions around the world wide web was in thanks to
a gentle man because of the name of Scott Falman who implemented the use in the smiley face
symbols &quot ; :-) &quot ; and &quot ; :-( " on his message boards to stand for one's jokingness or seriousness since
numerous misunderstandings were occurring within the message boards.

Today, smileys and emoticons have grow to be really popular in digital communication, and most email providers, forums, and instant messengers support using smileys either by automatically converting character sequences into images, or having a menu of smileys present for simple implementation.
